The Smithfield scheme forms part of the Council’s wider £200 million vision to establish a new, modern business quarter within the city centre. Blending commercial office space, digital and enterprise hubs, and public realm improvements, the development is a key driver in attracting investment and supporting economic growth in the region.

The name “Smithfield” reflects the site’s industrial heritage, formerly home to the historic bottle works. This connection to the past is subtly reinforced through the architectural approach, where contemporary materials and fabrication techniques are used to reinterpret traditional industrial forms. The perforated aluminium panels contribute to this narrative, offering a modern façade treatment that responds to both context and function.
